Joe LaCava is keeping himself sharp while his boss, Tiger Woods, is on the side lines.

Woods’ looper is at Quail Hollow this week, carrying the bag for world No. 4 Patrick Cantlay at the Wells Fargo Championship, according to a tweet from Daniel Rapaport.

Two weeks back, LaCava, who has caddied for Woods since the early 2010s, was carrying the bag for Steve Stricker at the Zurich Classic.

That week, LaCava’s player missed the cut, but he’ll be confident of getting more reps under his belt this time around, with Cantlay one of the bookies’ favourites at the Wells Fargo Championship.

LaCava has caddied almost exclusively for Woods in the past decade, but before that carried the bag for Fred Couples and Dustin Johnson.

This week’s partnership isn’t a new one for either player or caddie. LaCava carried the bag for Cantlay back in 2021 at the Northern Trust Open, while Woods was injured. Back then, LaCava said that he “ran it past” Woods before getting his strap under the shoulder.

Patrick Cantlay will be hoping to continue a strong run of form with his stand-in looper on the bag, which includes a third place finish at the RBC Heritage and a finish of tied for 14th at the Masters.
