Club pro Michael Block’s dream Oak Hill round threatened to turn into a nightmare with a horror shank on Friday.

Block, a head pro at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in California, was two shots off the lead on Friday and well in contention in his fifth PGA Championship appearance heading to the 165 yard par-3 5th, his 14th.

DeChambeau hits fellow player with wild shot

He qualified for the major with a tied second finish at the PGA Professional Championship last month, and has looked every bit at ease alongside the game’s elite near the top of the leaderboard.

But then disaster struck.

The 46-year-old hit what can only be described as a hard shank as his hand came straight off the club on his approach and his ball flew straight right.

He was fortunate his ball did not go out of bounds and instead miraculously rebounded off a tree back into the heavy rough.

If this was not the worst shot Block has ever hit in his life, we would be seriously surprised.

And how cruel that it came on perhaps his biggest stage; if ever there was a reminder golf is a fickle sport…

Clearly flustered, he missed the green with his next approach then failed to get up and down, as a double bogey caused him to fall from the front page of the leaderboard.

To his testament, Block did not implode and instead recovered with gutsy pars on his final four holes to comfortably make his first ever cut in a major championship at level par.

For Block, this was a horribly forgettable moment during an unforgettable week at Oak Hill.
