Justin Thomas may have reached rock bottom in his game – but he has certainly not lost his sense of humour on the course.

The former world No 1 admitted he was “humiliated and embarrassed” as he reached his lowest ebb after a second round 81 to finish 153rd out of 156 players at the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club.

He is desperately working to arrest his slump at the Travelers Championship this week, where he is spending his opening two rounds alongside the new US Open champion Wyndham Clark and Max Homa.

Thomas shares a good relationship with his fellow American Ryder Cup hopefuls and was not afraid to direct a chirp towards Clark just days after his incredible first major victory.

The two-time PGA Championship winner appeared to be responding to Clark’s request for him to mark his ball on the putting surface during Thursday morning’s first round in Connecticut.

Clark had a lengthy wedge shot into the green and Thomas was picked up by ESPN‘s hot mic saying: “Guy wins one f****** US Open and I gotta mark it from 80 yards.”

The light-hearted dig with the insinuation over Clark’s new supreme confidence has already gone viral on social media, with many fans enjoying the exchange.

Thomas, Clark and Homa are among plenty of star names teeing it up this week at the $20m dollar designated PGA Tour event.

Rory McIlroy will play alongside Viktor Hovland and Tom Kim in the first two rounds after he was edged out by Clark in Los Angeles.

Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler are grouped with Tony Finau, while Rickie Fowler is in another stellar grouping with Collin Morikawa and Matt Fitzpatrick.

But all eyes were on Thomas’ group early on Thursday morning as Clark received a superb reception on the first tee whilst introduced as the US Open winner.

The 29-year-old has barely had time to process such a monumental victory during a whirlwind few days, but he was certainly reminded of his epic achievement with Thomas’ cutting joke during his first round of action.
