Tiger Woods

Where better for Tiger to end a five-year winless drought than at the scene of the most recent victory? Woods has won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational eight times, most recently in 2013. His title defence in 2014 ended eight holes into his final round when he withdrew with back spasms. He hasn’t played in the event – or any World Golf Championship for that matter – since. Between 1999 and 2009, Woods finished no worse than fourth at Firestone and he holds the tournament record score, both aggregate and in relation to par. With the course bidding farewell to the PGA Tour after this year, there could scarcely be a more fitting way to sign off than with a win for the man who helped put the tournament on the map. If he can pick up where he left off at Carnoustie a fortnight ago, you can expect the 14-time major champ to be bang in contention this week.
