The Solheim Cup first took place 33 years ago – but which team has the most wins?

Team Europe and Team USA have been battling it out in the biennial contest for over two decades after the first match at Lake Nona in Florida back in 1990.

The clash between Europe and the United States’ finest female golfers was launched 63 years after the inception of the Ryder Cup.

• Who has the most Ryder Cup wins?

• 2026 Solheim Cup venue announced

The Solheim Cup is a duel that has historically been dominated by the Americans, who won four of the first six editions.

But Europe have now made the Solheim Cup trophy a fiercely contested prize, having won four of the last six renewals themselves.

In total, there have been 17 matches between the two teams, with Team USA edging things with ten wins to seven.

In 2023 at Finca Cortesin, however, Europe, captained by Norwegian Suzann Pettersen, have the chance to make it a hat-trick of Solheim Cup victories for the first time.

The feat has been achieved twice by the United States, but Europe have the chance to create their own slice of history in Andalucia in September.

Pettersen is captaining Europe for the first time, taking over from Catriona Matthew, who led the team to memorable victories at Gleneagles in 2019 and Ohio in 2021.

• Where will the Ryder Cup be played in 2025?

• Where will the ‘amateur Ryder Cup’ be played?

The USA, meanwhile, will be led by Stacy Lewis as they look to deny Europe a famous ‘threepeat’.
