It’s time for some team golf on the PGA Tour, as players head to New Orleans for the Zurich Classic.

While most events on the PGA Tour are individual strokeplay, this week is a little different. Players will form teams of two prior to the event, with fourball betterball in play on Thursday and Saturday, and alternate shot being used on Friday and Sunday.

Expect to see low scoring in New Orleans when teams are playing their best ball on Thursday and Saturday. There will be 80-teams in the field for this historic event, which has been contested since 1938, however, the team format wasn’t introduced until 2017.

This event always attracts a strong field, and this year is no different. Since the current format was introduced in 2017, Cameron Smith has won the event twice, while Jon Rahm teamed up with Ryan Palmer in 2019 to lift the trophy.

The event has been held at TPC Louisiana since 2005, a Pete Dye designed course. It’s a pretty tricky layout, that finishes with a risk-reward par-five that measures just under 600-yards. With a penalty area in play all the way up the right-hand side, we could see some tough decisions being made among teammates when it comes to the final hole.

With that being said, let’s take a look at all the information you need to know before the action gets underway…

Will Zalatoris – Davis Riley 40/1: Two first timers to the event here, but two guys who are on the form of their life. The pair played junior golf together not so long ago, so they’ll know each other’s games pretty well, an important factor in this format.
