English ace sets record straight on her Curtis Cup snub via bunkered.co.uk

‘Not injured’: Despite claims to the contrary, Lauren Taylor insists she would have been fit for the Curtis Cup

Lauren Taylor has contacted bunkered.co.uk to set the record straight on her controversial omission from the GB&I Curtis Cup team for this year’s match at Nairn.

Selectors chose to leave out the reigning British Ladies’ Amateur champion when they announced the eight-person team yesterday. Speaking to bunkered.co.uk shortly after the line-up was revealed, a ‘heartbroken’ team captain Tegwen Matthews revealed that Tayor had been left out due to a ‘nasty injury’ which they said had left the 17-year-old ‘unable to make a complete follow-through without wincing with pain’.

However, Taylor has dismissed those claims and wrote to bunkered.co.uk to tell her side of the story. Here is her statement in full:

“Contrary to the LGU statement and Curtis Cup Captain Tegwin’s comments; I am fit and looking forward to a full competitive season which starts next week. I tested my fitness last night when I played a full round on the Dukes at Woburn. I was hitting full shots pain free.

The LGU were given a report that confirmed I could pick up my training intensity this week and would be back to all golf activities within the week.

I can also confirm that I will be playing competitively before the end of June. I will be playing in France next week, followed by the LET Access tournament also in France. Next I am looking forward to the English Ladies Closed. In June I will be taking up LET invites to play in the Dutch Ladies Open and the Slovakian Open. I am also considering invites for tournaments in the US.

I wish the GB&I Team every success in the Curtis Cup but wanted to put the record straight. I am fit, well and looking forward to a competitive season.”
