PAUL LAWRIE | PAUL LAWRIE MATCH PLAY

Paul Lawrie has hailed the second staging of the Paul Lawrie Match Play after the tournament, once again, received tremendous amounts of praise from the players involved.

The tournament host, who was knocked out in the Round of 32 by Richard Green, spent the majority of the final out supporting his good friend Anthony Wall, but took a moment to give his verdict on the second staging of the event.

“I’m delighted with how it’s come across and how it’s played” – Paul Lawrie

“It’s been excellent, to be fair,” said Paul Lawrie. “The venue couldn’t have been any better. I’m delighted with how it’s come across and how it’s played. The driving range, pitching green, chipping green, putting green, everything’s handy, everything’s nearby and the spectator village is better than it was last year.

“This is only our second year, so we’re learning, as well as everyone else is. But I think it’s been absolutely brilliant.”

But the biggest praise has come in the shape of the format, with many players taking to social media to show their support for Lawrie and the event moving forwards.

“Their feedback again, like it was last year, they love the format,” added Lawrie. “They love the idea of a straight knockout. As for spectators, we’d like a few more, there’s no question about that, but we understand why they don’t come out in massive numbers.

“The Scottish Open is a really big tournament, the Open was in Scotland this year and then in a few weeks you’ve got our event. We understand it’s difficult but for £15 a day, they come and get a great experience and, all in all, I think it’s a great event.”

The players, such as Matt Fitzpatrick, Richie Ramsay and Marc Warren, agreed.
