Are you struggling to get the ball in the air from the fairway on those long approach shots? Then keep reading because we have the best fairway woods for high handicappers of 2024.

If you find that you’re not getting the distance, carry or you’re simply not getting close enough to the green, it often comes down to mishits and not being able to get the ball in the air.

A great thing about the fairway options today is they feature MOI and are super forgiving. But, some certainly carry forgiveness in higher quantities than others and if you're a high handicap player, you'll probably need something that is easy to get off the ground. What you can expect from any of the clubs in this list is an easier launch, better distance and tighter dispersion to get your shots going longer and straighter. If you're a high handicapper who wants a fairway wood in 2024, there's plenty options for you.

But which one should you play?

The Ai Smart Face delivers forgiveness across the face with high ball speed and distance. 12g is placed low-forward to give you a higher launch and lower spin, and 12g rearward for increased forgiveness.

This looks great at address, builds your confidence and with Ai Smart Face you can expect great speeds and distances. Get ready for longer and straighter shots.

These are great for players who wants a stunning looking, high-performing, easy to hit fairway wood.

PROS

  • We're big fans of the blacked out finish
  • Incredibly easy to launch the ball
  • Several options of different head styles
  • Mishits still perform very well, even from the deck

CONS

  • Very difficult to fault
Available for £279 from Cobra

The most forgiving fairway metal in the lineup is designed for players that desire a high, draw-biased ball flight.

Like the MAX driver, the fairway metal features an adjustable weight system with 12g and 3g weights positioned in the back and the heel of the sole to fine tune forgiveness and flight. PWR-BRIDGE weighting and PWRSHELL H.O.T. FACE Technology deliver the fastest ball speed possible using low and forward weighting and an optimised variable thickness face design, while a carbon crown helps lower the CG location for higher launch.

A great looking head, that’s fast in and easy to launch and a great option for high handicappers in 2024.

Ping G430 Max fairway wood
Ping G430 MAX
The Ping G430 Max is a brilliant all-rounder, as well as being very forgiving.

PROS

  • Shallow looks will inspire confidence
  • Spinsistency works well on mishits
  • Great combination of power and forgiveness

CONS

  • Not a huge upgrade on the G425
Available for £299 from Ping

Ping are well known for making top quality woods, and their G430 Max caters for players who need forgiveness in a fairway wood.

The Ping G430 Max comes with a Carbonfly wrap, which is an ultra-lightweight crown, making it easy to redistribute weight around the head. Also featured in the G430 Max is a maraging steel face, which wraps into the sole and crown, producing fast ball speeds. One of Ping’s big selling points is their spinsistency, which improves performance on strikes from low on the face, ideal if you tend to mishit your fairway woods. This club also has a weight in the back of the head, which promotes a high launch, perfect for shots from the fairway.

If you like to a fairway wood that is versatile and looks great, then a Ping G430 Max is a great contender.

PXG Black OPS image
PXG Black OPS
The PXG Black Ops will appeal to players who want a fairway wood that will launch the ball high.

PROS

  • Just like the drivers, these are beautiful
  • Confidence inspiring shape behind the ball
  • Option of a 4-wood is great
  • Launches high into the sky

CONS

  • Only one shape, if you want something draw biased and super forgiving, you might want to look elsewhere
Available for £319 from PXG

As you’d expect, the PXG Black Ops fairway wood shares a lot of the same tech as the driver.

The face is made with strength and durability in mind, it’s also 12.5% thinner than in the previous PXG model, which is going to make it more flexible, producing faster ball speeds. With the flexibility across the face, it delivers more forgiveness, higher launch and lower spin. Similarly to the drivers, you’ll find the Precision Weighting Technology, which means these clubs can be adjusted to suit your preference in shot shape. This is a big plus for someone looking for a forgiving option, as it can be adjusted to help you get the ball in the air more, or be set up for more draw bias.

Confidence inspiring behind the ball, especially in the higher lofts, so you'll have no problem getting the ball in the air.

Srixon ZX MKII image
Srixon ZX MKII
A fairway wood that looks great and will appeal to a wide range of players.

PROS

  • Very large footprint inspires confidence
  • Rebound frame works well for power
  • Solid all-round choice

CONS

  • There are more forgiving woods on the market
Available for £249 from Srixon

Although this fairway wood isn’t specifically designed for forgiveness, it’s still a great option for higher handicap players who want a solid performing fairway wood.

The Srixon ZX MkII fairway wood has a very large footprint, making it easy on the eye behind the ball. Inside that head is the rebound frame, which is made up of two pieces rather than one. This, Srixon say, makes it like a spring within a spring, for fantastic ball speeds.

Where normal clubs flex once at impact, the Srixon ZX MkII flexes twice. The Srixon ZX MkII is a great looking and performing fairway wood. Ideal for players looking for an all-round performer

TaylorMade Qi10 Max fairway wood

It has been designed with extreme forgiveness and playability in mind. This is designed to deliver more stability at impact with a shallower head shape, with extreme levels of MOI allowing for higher launch and forgiveness across the face. Mass pads have been designed for maximum forgiveness with the weight moved to the extreme low back, making this fairway wood easy to hit.

With it being low in CG and high in MOI it really is easy to launch especially on mishits.

Titleist TSR1 fairway wood
Titleist TSR1

PROS

  • Incredibly easy to get in the air
  • Large head is very confidence inspiring
  • Lightweight design promotes speed

CONS

Available for £289 from Titleist

The Titleist TSR range features four lines, with the TSR1 fairway wood the club designed to be most forgiving. This is aimed at players with slow swing speeds and features a very large footprint.

The Titleist TSR1 was the last model to be released in the brand’s 2023 range. However, that certainly doesn’t mean you should discount it. It’s a super lightweight construction, 20 grams lighter than the TSR2, which is also a great option for players who have a fast swing but want forgiveness. With the Titleist TSR1, you’re going to gain club head speed, particularly if you’re not blessed with a fast swing.

This is a particularly good option if you struggle to get the ball off the ground for shots from the fairway. Incredibly easy to hit, it’s one of the best fairway woods of 2023 for high handicappers.
