Best premium golf balls 2024

Tiger Woods switched to this ball in 2022, as it’s slightly firmer than the B XS, which he used prior to that.  

The new Reactiv X system inside this ball, along with the Reactiv iQ Smart Cover Technology, makes this ball very long off the tee, while still maintaining great control around the green. The Smart Cover Technology means you’ll find longer drives, along with more control on approach shots.  

Bridgestone say this ball is perfect for players who have a swing speed over 105mph. If that’s you and you’re looking for a golf ball that flies a long way off the tee, then this is a safe bet.  

A new addition to the Callaway range, the Chrome Tour range really impressed us. In our testing, it was going up to 5mph faster than the previous model. That’s a different world of distance.  

You’ll see that this ball features round dimples as well as hexagonal dimples on the cover and this is going to aid in giving you more aerodynamics off the tee. As well as that, you’ll find a softer feel, while you get a more penetrating ball flight, particularly with the driver.  
We found that these balls are particularly stable in the air, with the ball flight not massively impacted by outside elements. We’re sure this will be a popular option in 2024. 

PXG’s first attempt at a golf ball and they’ve done a pretty handy job. They said they wouldn’t go into the ball industry unless they knew they could perform, and they’ve pulled it off. 

As you would imagine, there’s plenty tech to get stuck into with the PXG ball. On the outside, there’s a 338 dimple pattern engineered to deliver aerodynamic characteristics designed for maximum distance with a high and penetrating trajectory. The polybutadiene core that’s created for high-speed performance will also help you achieve fantastic distance from the tee box. 

This is PXG’s first iteration of the golf ball and they’ve done a cracking job. At the price point, it’s a solid option. 

There’s three options in the Srixon Z Star range, and the standard Z Star is the softest and highest spinning version of them. If you want something that will react on your approach shots, this is the one for you.  

These balls feature a Fastlayer DG core, which starts off as soft at the centre, while getting increasingly firm the further out you go. This means that you’ll get greenside control, while maintaining fantastic distance off the tee. You’ll also want to know about the cover on this ball, which is the Spin Skin+ coating, which increases friction on short shots, to increase spin.  

Overall, a great choice for a wide range of golfers.

The tour validation of the TaylorMade TP5 range speaks for itself. If it’s good enough for TaylorMade’s team of staffers, it’s good enough for us.  

The centrepiece tech in this ball is the larger, more reactive core. This is designed to store and release energy more efficiently, giving you a spring-like performance off the tee. As the name suggests, this is a five-layer golf ball that provides the highest spin from any TaylorMade golf ball.  

Certainly a competitor for 2024, the TaylorMade TP5 is excellent. There’s also the PIX version that Tommy Fleetwood uses, which we love.  

There’s not much that we can say about the Pro V1 that hasn’t been said already, but we’ll still try. It’s the most played ball on professional tours for a reason. 

The most recent iteration offers maximum short game control, with a mid flight trajectory for your tee shots. As well as that, you’re getting an all-round soft feel. The core is a high gradient offering, which means plenty of distance from the tee. On the outside, you get a spherically-tiled 388 tetrahedral dimple design delivers a penetrating and consistent flight. That might be a mouthful, but it works. 

The No.1 ball in golf, it’s hard to find fault with the Pro V1.  

This might not be a ball you’d consider as a premium offering, but it really does compete with the big boys.  

This is a four piece golf ball, and it’s packed full of tech. Inside, there’s a medium compression core which generates maximum velocity from the tee. On the outside, a thin but durable 3six2 urethane cover offers durability, as well as maximum stopping power on your approach shots.  

This ball needs to perform, since it’s going up against the more established golf ball brands at its price point. It’s very durable, and certainly performs on the course.
