PXG have returned with their second generation of their Battle Ready putter range which features a brand-new hollow body design and the “thinnest putter face in golf”.

If you’re the type of player who doesn’t always hit the centre of the putter, this new range of Battle-Ready putters could be for you.

I got my hands on the Blackjack and the Brandon – which I’ve tested in the previous generation – and the one thing that stands out straight away is the colouring. Originally, they were all black, but now it’s a gun metal grey which looks superb at address and very easy on the eye.

The face colour has also changed with a new refined pyramid design. It has a darker pyramid milled face with grey tips which looks pretty cool and, where the tungsten weighting was before, it has been changed to black instead of grey.

• Review: Callaway CB Wedges

You’ll notice the incredible balance when you pick the putter up. The weighting is superb and the putter feels great in the hands. The new colouring also frames the ball really well. The biggest standout is the control, feel and roll off the face. Its new hollow body design allows unwanted mass to be repositioned which has allowed for MOI to be increased. That makes for a very stable putter.

What you also have is not only the thinnest putter face in golf but a new S COR technology which is a light polymer injected into the body which supports the face reducing vibrations.

• WITB: Brian Harman, The Open

The new thin face feels soft and solid when striking your putts and, with it being 0.055 inches thick, it delivers brilliant forgiveness.

Precision weighting on the sole gives superb balance while the hollow body design improves the feel and sound off the face.

• Iconic brand makes return at the Open

If you’re looking at a blade, the forgiveness won’t be as high as one of the mallets – as is always the case with putters – but the feel and roll of these new PXG Battle Ready putters are superb.

I’m a big fan of the PXG Battle Ready II new hollow body designs. With nine models to choose from, it will tough to choose your gamer.
