The Spaniard, the all-time record points-scorer in the Ryder Cup, has had a decidedly bizarre year up to now. Fourteen starts in 2021 have yielded five missed cuts and six top-20 finishes, two top-10s amongst them. Not exactly the kind of form that Padraig Harrington will have been hoping for from the 41-year-old. Harrington did recently say that the former Masters champion would “nearly need to lose a limb” to miss out on a pick but this is Sergio we’re talking about; nothing is out of the question.
