After weeks of speculation, it has been confirmed that former world No.1 Jordan Spieth is working with Butch Harmon.

The news was corroborated by Golf Digest’s Dave Shedloski on social media this evening.

According to Shedloski, Spieth wanted confirmation from Harmon that he “is on the right path” with the swing changes he has been making alongside Cameron McCormick, his long-standing coach.

Despite Harmon’s involvement, McCormick will remain on Spieth’s coaching team going forward.

Harmon’s pedigree speaks for itself. He coached Tiger Woods to his first eight major victories, following which he spent eight successful years working with Phil Mickelson. He has also worked with the likes of Ernie Els, Stewart Cink, Greg Norman, Davis Love III, Fred Couples and Justin Leonard, as well as Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Gary Woodland and Rickie Fowler.

Who better, then, to get Spieth of his current funk? And what a funk it is.

The three-time major champion started 2021 outside of the world’s top-80 and still searching for a first win since the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in 2017.

His form in the past two to three years has been as miserable as his breakthrough season in 2015 was spectacular.

There have, however, been recent green shoots of a recovery. With the exception of a second round 81 at the US Open, Spieth has posted nothing worse than a 74 in six starts on the 20/21 PGA Tour season to date.

The 27-year-old is expected to make his first appearance of this year at the Farmers Insurance Open later this month.
