Don’t drink and tweet.
That’s a lesson Richard Bland has learned the hard way.
The Englishman has apologised for an uncharitable social media post he directed at compatriot Eddie Pepperell following the latest LIV Golf event in Adelaide.
Pepperell, 32, was involved in a discussion about the LIV Golf League’s ‘Party Hole’ at The Grange Golf Club.
Tagged in a post showing the raucous celebrations after Chase Koepka had a hole-in-one on the hole during Sunday’s final round, Pepperell pointed out that the sight of golf fans throwing beer onto the course in celebration of the ace was nothing new.

“This has been happening at Scottsdale for years now, so not sure how much LIV is really changing things here,” he wrote.
That prompted this reply from LIV man Bland.
“Ed.. tell me where on DP World there’s been a hole like this? Because in 22yrs of playing the tour I can’t think of any. But maybe your 15 minutes on tour you know different.”
However, this morning, he has apologised, admitting that drink played a part in his post.
Bland made history on the DP World Tour in 2021 when, at the age of 48 and on his 478th start, he became the oldest first-time winner on the circuit.
That prompted this withering comeback to his original tweet from two-time DP World Tour winner Pepperell.

“Where to start,” he wrote. “Suppose it’s simple; in my 15 minutes I won more events than you did in 22 years. What the Tour has done (just to name a few); GolfSixes, Heineken hole at Himmerland, Beat the Pro in Holland. The Tour, which you spent 22 years on, did ok for you mate.”
After Bland apologised, Pepperell replied: “You just left yourself so open. The haymaker had no choice but to land.”
“I know,” replied Bland.”Lesson learned. All said & done.. I hope you’re well mate.”
And with that, golf’s latest social media beef would appear to be over.
