Thomas couldn’t have come any closer to edging into the top 70. The two-time major winner fought valiantly all week but suffered heartbreak as he missed out on the playoffs by one shot. He finished in a tie for 12th at the Wyndham Championship, showing signs that he has arrested his dramatic slump in form. But he was desperately close to sneaking in as his chip on his 72nd hole agonisingly bounced off the flagstick. And with that, could his Ryder Cup hopes be over?
