The 2023 PGA Tour season was one to remember for Wyndham Clark despite a unique approach, so who is Wyndham Clark’s coach?
The American made his breakthrough with a first tour win at the Wells Fargo Championship in May before winning the U.S. Open in June.
It was time for a Ryder Cup debut after that, but there was one noticeable aspect of Clark’s success.
That is the fact he doesn’t have a coach.

While it is an incredible rarity for professional golfers to have no form of swing coach, Clark has proved he can triumph without one.
It wasn’t until he became self-reliant that he found success on tour, which is particularly surprising after enjoying a memorable amateur career.
After winning his first major championship, he said: “I’m working on my own on my golf swing.
“It’s myself and my caddie pretty much monitoring my golf swing. I don’t have a swing coach. That’s helped me own my swing and own my game.
“I worked with some great coaches, and they were very good at what they do. But I didn’t know where the ball was going, and I didn’t own it.”
Previously, Clark worked with well-regarded coach Boyd Summerhays, the father of Preston Summerhays – one of the top amateurs in the world.

Boyd is best known as being the long-term instructor for Tony Finau, while he has also coached LIV golfer Talor Gooch.
Finau said of Summerhays: “Boyd has been a great mentor, teacher, and friend. We’ve been through a lot together since the Korn Ferry Tour in 2014.
“He’s helped fine-tune my golf swing and the mental side of my game. He’s been a huge part of what I’ve been able to accomplish.”
The mental side of golf is where Clark does seek support. His small team includes mental coach Julie Elion, who is an American sports psychologist.
Clark’s coach is the founder of the Center for Athletic Performance Enhancement, which she founded in 1998.
She has been involved with over 150 PGA Tour events winners and 25 Major Championship winners in her career of 25 years, and been involved in NBA, NFL, MLB, WNBA, and LPGA.
Elion’s work has done the trick for Clark and evidently taken his game and attitude to the next level.
The pair teamed up on recommendation from his caddie John Ellis. He said: “When you get in that pattern of negativity and ‘I stink, I suck, I’ll never make a cut again’ – all the things that I heard – it’s hard to climb out of it.
“We had a little heart to heart, I was like ’buddy you’re on the verge of not being on the PGA Tour or on the verge of being a star’ you have to make a change because you can’t keep doing this to yourself.”
It’s a popular move on tour, with many players working with psychologists. Among Elion’s current clients are fellow Americans Max Homa and Justin Thomas.
