One of Europe’s leading golf courses is set to host a women only Pro-Am later this year.

Golf Villa Rentals has announced that the event will take place at the stunning Portuguese resort of Monte Rei and will be sponsored by James Villa Holidays.

The prestigious club has seen a 35% rise in women golfers in the past 12 months, and this increase has resulted in the desire for some competitive action.

The tournament will hopefully, in turn, attract women from all over the world to play in the Eastern Algarve, as there is a clear lack of female only tournaments across Europe.

“An all women pro-am has been a target event that we have been keen to develop at Monte Rei,” said David Ashington, Director of Sales & Hospitality at Monte Rei.

“The vision was based on feedback from our lady guests that have played the course and always commented now how much they enjoyed the golf experience and our country club environment.

“We wished to support the development of the women’s game along with bringing a competitive option as opposed to a holiday break.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Golf Villa Rentals and James Villas holidays, whom both shared the same vision to create this exciting event.”

The tournament will take place from the November 14-16, and will be held on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, with a third round taking place on Quinta Do Vale.

The course at Monte Rei is one of only a few Nicklaus Signature courses in Europe, and the layout provides an unforgettable experience.

It is well renowned for its numerous water hazards and for having some of the best quality bunkers in the continent.

“We have been following the women’s games for a while and have always
planned to host a women only pro-am, Monte Rei seemed like the idyllic
location to do this,” said Paul Jones, Director of Golf Villa Rentals.

“We wanted to ensure that golfing holidays and tournaments are
accessible and working with our friends and partners, James Villa
Holidays is helping to achieve this.”

Professional and amateur players are welcome to compete in the
12-team event, with an unrivalled prize fund for first place of £2,000
on offer.
